Will the NCAA (aka the other members) allow FBS football to split off

from the group while keeping the other sports under the NCAA umbrella? In terms of membership numbers, there are more non-FBS members than FBS members, so they should have a say in the matter since this decision will impact the other sports too. It is the primary reason the NCAA passed a bylaw about 20 years ago forbidding DI schools from competing at the DII and DIII levels in sports. The NCAA decided that the DI schools had an "unfair competitive advantage" over the DII and DIII schools because of the extra money the DI schools received from the other sports competing at the DI level. The change came about because DI schools were competing at the DIII level in football as a way to lower cost by not offering athletic scholarships in the sport. As a result of the bylaw, the NCAA allowed DI schools to participate in non-scholarship or reduced scholarship football at the FCS level.

Also, if the FBS is allowed to become independent, then I could see the P5s decide to exclude the G5 from the group in order to get a bigger slice of this new pie.
